Terms & Conditions

Last updated: 2026-08-25

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using auraOrNot ("the Platform") you agree to these Terms & Conditions and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old (or the minimum digital age of consent in your country, whichever is higher) to register. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement. We rely on your self-declaration; deliberate misrepresentation of age is a breach of these Terms and may result in permanent account termination.

3. Content Ownership & Licence

By uploading an image or linking a video you confirm that:

  • You are the creator of the content, or
  • You have explicit permission from the rights holder to publish it on this Platform.

You retain ownership of your content. You grant auraOrNot a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, thumbnail and serve your content solely for the operation of the Platform. This licence is revoked when the content is deleted.

4. Artificial Intelligence Training (Optional Consent)

We are developing AI technology to identify and measure "aura" — the intangible energy or presence projected by a person, image, or video. To train and improve this technology, we would like to use content uploaded to the Platform.

Your participation is entirely optional. During registration you may choose to opt in to allowing your uploaded content to be included in our AI training datasets. You may withdraw this consent at any time in your account Settings.

If you grant consent, the following applies:

  • Content you upload while consent is active may be used to train, validate, or evaluate AI models operated by or on behalf of auraOrNot.
  • Withdrawing consent stops your content from being used in future training datasets from the moment you withdraw.
  • If content has already been incorporated into a trained model, complete removal from that model's learned parameters is technically impractical and may not be possible. We will remove your content from raw training datasets and exclude it from subsequent training runs.
  • When you delete any piece of content, it is immediately removed from our storage and will not be used in any future training session.
  • Your consent is recorded with a timestamp. You can view and update it at any time in Settings → Privacy.

This clause is drafted in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, and ICO guidance on AI and data protection (2023–2026).

5. Prohibited Content

You may not upload or link content that:

  • Features any person under the age of 18 in a sexual or sexualised context
  • Constitutes defamation, harassment, or hate speech
  • Infringes intellectual property rights
  • Contains malware or deceptive material
  • Violates any applicable law
  • Depicts non-consensual acts

6. Reporting & Takedowns

Anyone may report content at any time (anonymously for GDPR-related content requests). We will review all reports and remove content that violates these Terms within a reasonable time. We comply with UK GDPR Article 17 (right to erasure) requests.

7. Aura Ratings & ELO

Ratings and ELO scores are community-generated metrics and do not constitute endorsements or factual assessments by auraOrNot. We reserve the right to correct, reset, or remove ratings in cases of manipulation or abuse.

8. Bans & Account Termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these Terms. Permanent bans will result in removal of all associated content. We retain your email hash and ban record to prevent re-registration; all other personal data will be erased in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

9. Limitation of Liability

auraOrNot is provided "as is". We are not responsible for user-generated content. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding any claim (£0 for free users).

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes shall be resolved in the courts of England and Wales. Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under applicable UK law.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may change these Terms & Conditions at any point. It is your responsibility to review this page and stay up to date with the current Terms. Material changes may be notified via the Platform, but continued use after any update constitutes acceptance of the latest Terms.
